Review: Angels in America

I heard about this HBO miniseries a few years ago when it won 37328462837 awards. It was adapted for the small screen by Tony Kushner, based on his Pulitzer Prize winning play of the same name. The drama follows several people living in New York during the 1980s and deals with the AIDS epidemic and the Reagan administration. If you are homophobic or conservative I would recommend you stay away, but everyone else should it at any cost.

It totals to almost 6 hours and can’t be watched in one sitting, but is broken up nicely into 6 chapters. The acting throughout is incredible. The standout performance for me was Justin Kirk. You may know him as the sex-crazed, lackadaisical uncle from Weeds, but his performance here as a gay man suffering from AIDS shows his excellent dramatic ability. The rest of the cast includes Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Ben Shenkman, Mary-Louise Parker, Jeffrey Wright and Patrick Wilson. Fun fact: many of the actors play multiple roles in the film, try and spot them before the credits!

Here's a bootleg trailer:
